Don't know if this is the right way to reach you, but hope this is okay.
With a recent update, a "Convert to Japanese when searching" was added to the dictionary. However, the dictionary search behaves very differently depending on whether or not it is checked.
For example, searching the romaji "kaeru" only shows one specific compressed match (帰る, where the dictionary specifically shows a compressed view of the definition while saying it is the "casual non-past" form), while searching "kaeru" with the "Convert to Japanese when searching" checkbox turned on shows the full breakdown of all matching words (帰る, 変える, 換える, 替える, 代える, 返る, 反る, かえる/frog, 孵る, etc). So the checkbox isn't just a convenience toggle, it actually changes which results you get.
I understand that this new behaviour is preferred by some users, but the problem is that this checkbox resets to off on every page reload (web) and every app restart (mobile), so for users like me who prefer Japanese search it has to be manually re-enabled constantly to get full search results.
Would it be possible to consider either:
Adding a setting under the "Dictionary" tab in profile settings to control the default state of this checkbox, or
Remembering the last state the user set it to, so it doesn't reset automatically?
Either option would make a big difference. Thanks so much for considering it!
PS: You'd get the same results if you typed かえる directly, so that behaviour isn't exclusive to the new checkbox. It's actually just the difference between a romaji search and a Japanese search.
