i know its a classic issue but still. also, i apologize for my long text, im a little overwhelmed. and thank you in advance mwah
my problem is that i have important upcoming exams and i have been spending almost my entire day studying for them for a few months now. hence its been troubling me how i cant make time for japanese much, i just do the reviews in a few minutes and go back to studying or doing the chores
AND then, i realized i actually started to forget the things i have learned so far. which made me pause and zone out for a moment
[live reaction]
i thought about squeezing in jp into the smallest amount of free time i have, but for various reasons it hasnt been very effective
i dont want my busy schedule to be the reason to take a break from it, because if i do, i will have to start studying from scratch. again.
it is not pleasant to experience this while continuing my language learning journey with the same tenacity as that last thread holding two ropes together at all costs ngl
so, how can i maintain an effective and stable level of study when i have so little time
I’ve had the same problem. What’s helped me is watching tv in Japanese when I have my tv time at night and doing some renshuu reviews and lessons before I go to bed. Also reading books! I’ve also started reading Japanese books for my recreational reading, when I have time. Listening to Japanese music and podcasts in the car or when I’m cleaning is also really helpful, especially for listening and grammar. It can be challenging balancing school studies and Japanese studies! I hope this helps and I wish you luck with your studies!
Life happens. You can use renshuu to go faster or slower as your needs require. The SRS algorithm is meant to accommodate forgetting. So do what you can now, but don’t stress about it. We’ll still be here when you get some time.
I have learned japanese on and off for a long time and forgot it often during years-long breaks. But it will come back easier and faster once you start up again. So you will not have to start from scratch.
If forgetting things during reviews stresses you too much right now, you can take a clean full break. Freeze your schedules and pick them back up after your exams.
You might surprise yourself with what you still remember then.
Good luck on your exams.
