(For more information on this upcoming feature, see here: https://eu.renshuu.org/forums...)

In order to help guide my development, I am opening up "formal" applications for those who would like to manage a Study Group inside of renshuu?

While reading the above thread is most helpful, in short, a study group will be:

1. A *public* group on renshuu for anyone to join, bound by some theme or topic in Japanese learning. It could be cultural (an anime series, books, a music artist), "language" based (4-kanji compound group, haiku, calligraphy, etc.), goal-oriented (jlpt n3 prep, kanji kentei), or IRL (groups for a specific class in a school, etc.).

2. Study Groups (SG) will (eventually) have their own mini-forum, collections of resource lists (either made by members of the group, or selected from public lists in renshuu), ways to engage in smaller versions of renshuu elements (group-specific shiritori, question corner, etc.), group-specific kao garden quests, and possible even group goals for everyone to work towards! Also plan to have resource (vocab, etc.) lists that multiple people in the group can work on.

All group contents will be visible to ALL registered members: there will not be any renshuu pro-specific groups, nor will there be private groups. I might consider member approvals for some groups (like a group for an IRL class), but the SG page itself will still be visible to everyone. For similar reasons to the end of DM support last year, I am unable to provide safe moderation for renshuu without the ability for everyone to see everything :)

The SG development will be open as I go, and as I do not have a firm idea of how everything will look, this is your chance to be opinionated and let me know what you want to see as I build it!

Interested in running a group?

Please leave an "application" below, and include the following information:

1. Name of the group

2. Goal/topic/theme of the group (if you had to describe the group to possible new members in 1-2 sentences, what would yo say?)

3. Which of the features listed above do you feel your group would use the most?

Note: running a group does have a bit of responsibility: you'll be in charge of managing group ranks (letting in other helpers to let you deal with group settings, rotating games, approving entries to the list of resources, etc.), so this is not for saying "I'd like to see this kind of group", but rather, "I personally want to run (or help run) this kind of group.

1. Name of the group

Mastering Particles : が, は, を, に, & More!

2. Goal/topic/theme of the group

This group is all about mastering Japanese particles. We will explore how different particles are used, compare confusing ones (は vs が OR に vs へ), and share example sentences, do quizzes and resources to deepen understanding together! We will also make and provide or share usage notes from across the web or which is present in here and discuss about it
A short way to describe the group
: A friendly and open space to help understand the more complex aspects of learning particles. Sharing examples, asking questions, and learning from each other's experiences.

3. Features the group would use the most

  • Resource lists: Accurate examples, explanations.
  • Mini-forum: for discussions, sentence breakdowns and other Q&A.
  • Group goals and quizzes: small weekly challenges (Like : Do 5 sentences in a week based on the particles and then help if it is wrong. Then we would grade the sentences based if they are correct or wrong. ) etc.
  • Group shiritori or kao garden quests.

I would also like others to freely edit our idea with the main purpose staying same! kao_sparkles.png And I would also like to have other people collaborate.

Thanks for the reply! I think the group focus might be a little narrow - we don't (I think, at least) want TONS of similar groups so that a person gets spread out among too many - it'll be too much to pay attention to, and the more division we have (for examples, people asking questions in one study group instead of another, or in the forums), the chances of getting a good answer may go down.

So, while "grammar" is too broad, of course, and I can almost guarantee we'll have some groups focused on jlpt levels, maybe for this one, Grammar: Particles would be better?

Once a group theme is decided upon, it cannot be changed without admin approval - we don't want people being in a group, then the group suddenly changing, so getting a good range and scope from the get-go is important :)

Yeah I think Grammar: Particles has a nice ring to it. I agree. Also I just had this but how would leader get elected? kao_think.png

There are no elections - whoever applies for a group that gets approved is in charge. There is not a ton of admin duty, but they will be able to add helpers that have "lower than admin but higher than user" powers.

1. Name of the group:
Kanji & Vocabulary Explorers

2. Goal/topic/theme of the group:
This group focuses on improving kanji recognition, reading, and vocabulary usage through shared study lists, quizzes, and group challenges. Whether you’re preparing for the JLPT or just want to expand your everyday Japanese vocabulary, this group is a place to learn and grow together!

3. Features we’ll use the most:
We’ll focus on shared vocabulary/kanji resource lists, mini-forum discussions on tricky words or kanji nuances, and group shiritori for fun review practice. Group goals and kao garden quests would also be great for keeping everyone motivated.
