Japan is fantastic as a holiday destination. There are many beautiful places, and unique culture spots to experience. Try and build up a plan before you arrive though, as many things are only available for part of the year.

Japan as a place to live is also fantastic, and terrible. Just like all countries Japan has things that people enjoy (typically how well maintained everything is, how convenient things are) and things people hate (typically work life balance, tax, the value of the yen).

If you're coming to Japan for a holiday, I think/hope you'll love it. Please remember though, that for the people that live here, it's home and people who work here deserve respect and kindness!

One advice is that don't assume Japan will be perfect, what im saying you have to keep in mind the disadvantages of being/visiting in Japan. Its good to be aware of those things.

I always find it crazy that ppl list taxes as a negative for living in Japan when they seem crazy low to me haha

Wouldn't call them "crazy low". Depends on where you live I guess. To a German, they might seem low, to an American they might seem high. I agree that it's a weird thing to fixate on though :D

From the way people have spoken about it to me, it's usually more to do with how they are implemented for foreigners. Having them suddenly start after that first year is quite a shock to a lot of people. I don't recall many people saying the amount is super high, just when their paycheck suddenly dropped how shocked they were~

If you are just going there on vacation, Japan is still the most popular choice for a holiday. The more places you visit, the broader your perspective will be in assessing things.

I just went this past summer and went to USJ, Disneyland, Nintendo Museum, Ghibli Park…oh and also Harajuku. Also love the crane game/gacha places, like gacha no mori, Me Tokyo, Taito, GiGo…and if you get the lucky chance then go to Chiikawa Land…I heard it’s really fun but you have to get a reservation lottery ticket so I didn’t get to go😢…but yeah, Japan is an awesome place to visit!!!

Lower your expectations and enjoy every minute while you’re there. Japan is a beautiful country, flaws and all.
