Current shiritori requires a word beginning with ぢ. Is that possible? I tried ぢゃや () but that didn’t work.

Na… I couldn‘t find anything in the dictionary…

You can search the dictionary for „words that start with X“ by typing an *, for example „あま*“ for words that start with あま. (That way you‘ll find nothing useful for ぢ, so that shiritori might have come to an end…)

The shiritori hasn’t even begun! The requirement is for the first word.

I don‘t see that game, to be honest… Maybe someone else can help…?

I don't see that game, but try a word starting with じ

Weird. Does it accept じ? They are the same sound. Some words used to use ぢ, but now use じ.

Maybe try ぢりぢり or ぢゃない?

With a Japanese keyboard, I seem to be able to get ヂ or ぢ by typing di.

The issue wasn’t whether ぢ could be typed. I could type it - it was part of the title of the bug report. The issue was the shiritori required the first word to begin with ぢ, which as part of the Japanese language is deprecated, and therefore only appears in older words. Furthermore, no modern word in accepted Japanese dictionaries begin with ぢ. The closest I could find was ぢゃや which is used in prostitution dens disguised as teahouses (really obscure - I think this is pre WWII) versus ちゃや, the regular pronunciation. There was also ぢゃわん (modern ちゃわん) for tea bowls (e.g., chawanmushi)- really the same tea word. But words ending in ん can’t be used in shiritori. There are a couple of other words.

So, a bug which led me down a short but fascinating linguistic journey.

Replaced it with ち (for all games that had this character as a starter, and will adjust the startup code to avoid this character in the future).
