When clicking on a reading for a kanji, specifically the ones with periods in kunyomi to signify what part is the kanji, it keeps that period when searching it up, which makes it annoying to figure out what word that reading is for and you have to manually remove said period.
TLDR please remove periods automatically when searching up a kanji kunyomi, particularly when moving it to words. Thank you!
This has been implemented, in a way. The implementation is quirky, however, and fails in ways that I’ve been unable to quantify. If you are able to detect a pattern, please share it here.
Thanks for the post. To clarify, はな.す is bringing up expected results in the kanji dictionary, it's just that you'd like the period to be removed for the non-kanji dictionary searches?
Yeah, since I like to sometimes search up the kunyomi to see what word the kanji is being used in.
I'll consider adjusting this. In the meantime, keep in mind that below the kanji panel in the dictionary, it does show words for each of the readings so you can see how they are used :)
Actually, a follow-up question. On that initial screenshot, はな.す brought up results for both vocab and sentences, and not for grammar (which is expected). Can you clarify which results were not given that you would have expected to see?
Michael, I think you might be misunderstanding the issue. はな.す does not find any vocabulary items. はな(す) does.
How do you get periods? I seem to only ever get 送り仮名 in brackets. I though that's what OP meant by "When clicking on a reading for a kanji". Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Ah, I see it now. That should be very easy to fix in terms of programming. I do wonder why those use periods instead of brackets though. Might be some sort of legacy quirk.
Anyway, hope it gets fixed :)
In addition to quizzes, periods are used in lists. If you browse a kanji list from community lists, you’ll see periods used for okurigana instead of parentheses.
