Although this is brand new, it was a fairly simple implementation, so instead of putting it behind an Experimental toggle, it's available to everyone.
Please report any issues.
At the moment, I have no plans to split up the settings on a kana or kanji answer basis.
Hell yeah! Been waiting for this setting for years. Thanks Michael!
This feels like a silly question and maybe it is....but I probably won't be the only one so I'll ask.....
sometimes things aren't always obvious about how they work or the intent/best way to use them
maybe silly questions/thoughts but someone else will probably eventually ask something similar
Hi, this is my first time using the feature, but it doesn't seem to work to me. I activated this feature and restrict to mastery level 4+, but I was also quizzed in fill-in-the-blank for words with mastery level below 4.
For example, 経路 had mastery level 1, and たたずむ was just introduced, but both were quizzed in fill-in-the-blank.
I suppose this is not the intended behavior, so can you look into it? Thank you
Same for me, got quizzed with fill-in-the-blank on all mastery levels, despite choosing 8+ .
This appears to be working for me, but only for meaning -> kanji questions, and not for kanji->kana questions (though perhaps that's the way it's supposed to be).
Something that I'd like to see, that so far doesn't seem to be implemented, is re-evaluating this option if you MISS a question and that lowers your mastery. For example, if my mastery was above the threshold and had me type in the answer, but I got it wrong and that lowered my mastery to below the threshold, when re-asked that question as the end ... should it take the new mastery into account, and use multiple choice? At the moment, that doesn't seem to be the case, it keeps asking me to type it (and I keep missing it ).
Thanks for the feedback so far! I will probably get this to work, but if anyone get grab a few of those terms that are having issues, throw them into a separate schedule just for testing this, that would help me a *ton*. That aside, please confirm which study vectors you have active on your schedule, and which vector was quizzed (incorrect). Also, please note if they were sentence questions or not.
*no need* to send in ? quiz reports - we can keep them all here for now.
As to the other scattered questions:
1. It is inside of the schedule settings, so it only applies to that schedule.
2. People will ultimately use it the way they want to use it, but the thought behind it (and the many times it has been requested) is that many people feel fill in the blank is harder than multiple choice. So they would like to have easier-style questions at lower masteries, harder (fill in the blank) ones at higher masteries.
3. The determination for fill-in-the-blank (or not) is at the start of the quiz. Any changes to the mastery level (say, during the quiz) will not affect this. At the moment, I do feel this is ideal, but I'll continue to take feedback.
thanks for clarifying - much appreciated
have a better idea and will try this out
Caught this UI bug, the setting collapses when enabled.
I am so excited for this! I was literally wishing for this the other day, because I know it will help me so much. Thank y’all for everything!! This app is fantastic and so much fun!
anna - thanks for the video. If you can still repeat that, I'd like to see what it looks like from before you tap the Settings link for the first time.
It does seem like the filter works well now too, great job! I'll see if I can record more of the bug for you.
This is exactly what I was hoping for, awesome feature
Buuuut, I would love if this worked for readings in kanji schedules (if possible)
I can extend it out to kanji schedules once it is rock solid in vocab ones :)
Note: the only tricky thing that may pop up is this preference fighting with the preference to use advanced reading question types.
Damn, I'm gonna lose my excuse to not turn on fill in the blanks on my N1 Kanji schedule lmao. Looking forward to the extension
Michael, could you check the listening questions? I think I'm getting the blanks on both kana and kanji listening questions, regardless of the level.
