wikipedia japanese article says its 北京市/ペキンし but i can only find 北京/ペキン in dictionary


since its on topic too why is there hiragana 北京/ぺきん for calling Beijing too? i thought Katakana were for all foreign words cities and countries and its not marked also written as

I’d say it’s a data anomaly. The entries for ぺきん and ペキン should be combined, and the sentences moved to the primary entry.

In casual conversation, yeah. But in more formal context or writing context, kanji can become more common. That's true even for normal word (kanji compound word are more common in formal/writing context).
