Ok so basically, this game takes place in a time period where humans have super advanced technological capabilities, and have already invented portals. The portals work by disassembling molecular structures and then reassembling them in the same way at the corresponding portal using complex quantum mechanics. If a corresponding portal is destroyed, or off, then the molecules are disassembled, but not reassembled, therefore essentially vaporizing the item/person which passed through the portal.
Okay now I’ll explain how portals have to do with space travel (it’s not the way you think
)
When the portals work by was first invented, (when they weren’t commercial portals, just small prototypes still), a portal collapsed on itself. (This the complex part: the frame of the portal collapsed and was sucked into itself, but this is while the other portal is off. This frameless portal is now unstable, and essentially a black hole, sucking in everything small enough to fit through the original portal and within about six inches (because it’s so small). This would look kinda funky, because it’s also sucks in light. The air around it would look extremely compressed, kinda wavy, I think. But this is important because it essentially opens a wormhole to the 4th dimension (I’ll try and come up with why it’s the 4th dimension), which before it was known to be the 4d, was dubbed the name ODS (Outer-Dimensional Space). The rift appears black, like a black hole, because 4d light is not perceivable to a 3d beings eye.) The rift was destroyed by turning on the stable portal, and passing it over the collapsed one, which disintegrated the wormhole. This ODS was left alone for about 50 years before scientists began to investigate it again, and they found out that it was the 4th dimension, but more importantly, how to stabilize the wormhole, and therefore create a portal into the 4th dimension, aka CIDRA (Contained Inter-Dimensional Rift Anomaly). They also that you can reopen a CIDRA from inside the ODS to get back into our frame of reality. They researched the ODS for 12 years before they realized that, because we are 3 dimensional beings, we don’t interact correctly with the ODS, and massive shifts in 4d space occur (for us only, because the ODS is interacting with us as if we were 4d, but we aren’t, so there are some strange things that happen, including faster than light travel). These shifts have been discovered to have predictable patterns, allowing humans to have premade routes to follow. But AI is necessary for ODS Jumping (4d travel), because it is too complicated for humans to navigate. So now, if you place a CIDRA on a starship, bring it through the rift with you, and close it from behind, you are now traveling through 4d space. You can then catch a space shift and will be traveling at speeds impossible in their 3d realm. Then your AI opens another CIDRA at the desired corresponding 3d location, then you have traveled hundreds of light years in a matter of days. Of course this comes with some risks, like if your AI malfunctions, you could end up on the other side of the galaxy, with unknown coordinates and no way to accurately predict a path back home. Or if you CIDRA collapsed while in the ODS, then your stuck in a 4d reality for the rest of you life, which wouldn’t be long due to the lack of oxygen and sustenance. Plus it’s extremely difficult to communicate from 3d reality with a ship that’s in ODS.
I think that’s it so far
That ended up being so much longer than I expected
