Due to life stuff I took a longer break without pausing my schedules, and now I'm drowning in a few hundred terms to review. Whenever I get through some of them, my pile is still mile high and only grows the next day.

Is there any way I can pace this, or do I have to go through all my schedules, freeze all but one, go through the reviews of the unfrozen one, then freeze it and move on to the next schedule to repeat the process?

It happens to everyone sooner or later. Don’t fret.

You have several options. One is to simply keep using renshuu normally. Don’t worry about clearing out all your reviews, just study a normal amount each day. The reviews will still be there the next day or whenever you get around to them.

Many people don’t feel comfortable with this approach, so renshuu offers options that let you limit the number of reviews per day. That way you only see the goal for today and don’t have to deal with the existential dread of all the items in your review queue.

As you mention, you can also freeze and delete schedules to let you focus on the items most important to you right now. You don’t lose anything by deleting a schedule that’s backed by a list, and you can always reschedule it again.

Finally, in extremis, you can reset your account. This is probably only useful if you’ve been gone for a very long time.

I’ve probably forgotten some other options. In short, there are many ways to handle the situation. Pick one that suits you.

Honestly? Your best bet is to just confine as normal, doing a few every day. Eventually you’ll catch up, and spacing it out will be more useful in the long run for retention than cramming as much as possible. It’s better to chip away at it slowly and make slow progress than be constantly overwhelmed and end up burned out. Good luck!

I can only tell you what I did when I took a few weeks break.

I changed my question Amount per review from whatever it was to 100.

which did mean that some lessons I was caught up fast but were more arduous, like sentences and kanji.

And the ones that took longer were words/hiragana and katakana, but now that im caught up im also used to this new amount of questions, and when mastery goes up the amount declines aswell obviously.

I wouldn't recommend this for everyone, because it has a tendency to overwhelm someone. It didn't affect me luckily

I think this has all been mentioned above, but a combo of setting the Pace (in the ... menu) to Review, then going into Settings > More Settings to set a daily review limit is probably the simplest way to handle it :)
