I don't know if this was previously discussed, but will new study groups need to be approved by you before they're added to renshuu? I feel like that would be important, because otherwise there might end up being a lot of similar/unnecessary groups that don't serve a purpose or confuse users as to which groups they should join
Yes, there will be an approval process - I'm not looking for tons of micro communities with <10 members, so I am aiming for ones that generally have a broader appeal.
Are you referring to studying a list out of the study group? The mechanics for this work the same way that they do for any lists under Community Lists, and so it'll give you every new term in that list. You'll need the list added to a schedule to pacing control.
Just thought of a potentially useful feature, although the mechanics need to be spelled out. The basic idea is that a group may have a preferred set of mnemonics that they want to use when studying kanji from one of the group’s kanji lists, either because they were written or chosen by group members, or because they all fit in with the group’s “theme.”
That's a relatively large set of work for a niche feature. While it's not unthinkable, there's a significant amount of "most groups still use this" features I'm currently working on :)
Indeed. It’s not like I would ever use this, so unless someone steps up and says “we really need this for our group,” I wouldn’t bother. I just wanted to share the idea while it was still fresh.
Is it somehow possible to have study group forum posts disabled for non-members so they won't show up on my dashboard?
The other day I typed out a reply to a forum question only to be told "hey, you can't post here cause you aren't a member". For me it's not very clear which are study group forum posts and which are regular forum posts. So I'd rather not see study group stuff at all. Thx
I had the same experience. It was not a positive one. It was especially annoying that I wasn’t told that I couldn’t post until after I had composed my message.
Personally, I enjoy seeing what is going on in the wider renshuu community, so I wouldn’t want to hide these posts. But the experience of the non-member needs a rethink.
Since the original post referred to the community widget on the dashboard, there should not be any study group posts EVER on there - it should only pull from the selected categories you have in the settings for that widget.
Additionally, the "unread" and the "search" pages for the forums should not include those either. They should be entirely contained in the group itself.
